Did you know budgies, parrots and songbirds require regular veterinary attention too?! We advise yearly visits to the vet for your feathery friends. During their yearly check up we will examine your bird’s beak, nails and feathers to determine if they require any specialized attention. Some birds require more frequent examinations.
Algonquin Animal Hospital provides medical and surgical care for a
wide variety of avian pets. Dr. Melanie Sigetich has a special interest in
exotic animal medicine. She has considerable experience with these special pets
having worked at a veterinary clinic in Oakville, reknown for exotic animal
care, for seven years prior to coming to Muskoka in 2003.
Algonquin Animal Hospital can comfortably handle,
discuss husbandry, perform health assessments, conduct laboratory tests
(including blood work and X-rays) and perform surgery for various avian (small
and large birds) species.
Note: a bird that doesn’t groom itself correctly and exhibits a ruffled, un-kept look associated with its feathers is usually a sick bird and should be examined as soon as possible by a veterinarian.
