We provide many surgical services at our clinic including routine spay and
neuters, soft-tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries. Occasionally, we refer
our patients to specialists (board certified veterinary surgeons) to assist with more advanced or complicated procedures.
Surgical Preparation
In preparation for your pet's surgery, no food should be offered after 8:00 p.m., unless specified by one of our veterinarians. Water may be offered throughout the
evening and morning unless otherwise directed. If your pet does have something to eat or drink before surgery,
please be sure to inform us upon admission for surgery. This does not necessarily mean
surgery will be delayed or postponed.
If your pet is receiving medication, check with us to see if you
should administer the medication on the morning of surgery.
As well, please allow your pet to relieve itself prior to admission for surgery, unless otherwise directed.
Your pet will receive a pre-surgical examination to
check for clinical signs of problems which may increase anesthetic risk.
However, many serious conditions may not be detected without first performing
blood tests. Pre-anesthetic blood testing confirms that your pet's organs
are functioning properly. Even healthy looking pets may be hiding
symptoms of a disease. Pre-anesthetic blood testing helps to detect illness so that we
can avoid concerns during anesthesia.
